On 21 February, councillor Maarten Jilisen of the Municipality of Land van Cuijk and Gerard van Liempt, CEO of property developer Necron Group, took a major step towards the realisation of a health campus in Boxmeer.
The municipality and Necron Group signed the purchase agreement for the transfer of the land on which the health campus will be developed in the coming years.
Necron also announced that hotel chain Marriott International will operate two distinct hotel brands on the campus.
The shared ambition is to create a diverse ecosystem on the campus, comprising healthcare institutions, (technology) companies, organisations, and knowledge institutions specialising in innovative healthcare. The campus will form a sustainable and healthy environment, not only for work but also offering accommodation, dining options, meeting spaces, health and fitness facilities, and more. Additionally, the campus will boost local employment and contribute to the economic vitality of the region.

Albert Jan Huisman, Chief Commercial Officer of Necron Group, talks about the ambitions of the campus. “Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer offers healthcare institutions, medtech companies, knowledge institutions and leading food companies, active in the field of innovative healthcare, the opportunity to grow in an ecosystem in which innovation, talent and collaboration are central.” Flexibly adaptable and shared facilities such as lab spaces, offices and research facilities promote technological advancement on campus. “Technology and innovation are essential to meet the healthcare industry’s biggest challenges, such as rising healthcare costs and an aging population,” he explains.

In June, the Land van Cuijk City Council adopted a new image quality plan for the campus, clearing the way for further development. “We are now in talks with several parties interested in locating on campus, but there is still plenty of room,” says Huisman. “We are open to new collaborations and look forward to welcoming companies within the Health Valley network that want to actively contribute to healthcare innovation.”
